Four suspected of killing Mozambican in Machinga
Police in Malawi’s Eastern Region have arrested four people on suspicion that they killed a Mozambican truck driver in Machinga on Sunday.
Eastern Region Police spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude identified the four suspects as Sanudi Makawa, 29, George William, 30, George Imani, 26 and Farouk Maida, 26.
He also identified the deceased as Logerio Jones Dicavardio, who worked as a truck driver for Transcom in Mozambique.
Nyaude said the deceased was attacked by the suspects while driving the truck loaded with 500 bales of tobacco from Lichinga in Mozambique heading for Tete through Malawi.
“Upon arrival at Ntaja Trading Centre, the suspects stopped and assaulted him to death before stealing the 500 bales of tobacco. The body of the deceased was thrown into the cabin of the truck before the suspects were arrested in Blantyre the following day. Meanwhile, all the bales of tobacco have been recovered in Ntaja,” he said.
Nyaude said the four are expected to appear before court to answer charges of murder and robbery with violence.
Makawa, Imani and Maida come from Mkhuna Village whereas William comes from Basuka Village, Senior Chief Liwonde in the district. n
